Breeding
Although an A.-nijsseni-group fish (supposed to be monogamous), a male A. baenschi will often breed with two or more females at the same time, if the tank is big enough (I use a 160 liter-tank), and if put in a tank without many competitors. Otherwise they form pairs.
When breeding with several females, the male is not allowed to participate in the care for the fry (polygamous behaviour), in pairs the male also jointly protect the fry.
