Distribution and habitat

Rio Ampiyacu-drainage, Peru.

I collected this species in the wild in 2008, only a 30 minutes walk from the town of Pebas, Peru.

Read about the collection in the report:
Collecting in Pebas, Río Orosa and Río Shishita.

The water: pH: 5,91     Conductivity: 30 microSiemens/cm     T: 32,5 °C
(At the end of the dry season, October 2008)

Water parameters

PH : 5 - 7
ppm : As soft as possible

My Experience

Not very aggressive, but with several specimens in the same tank, it's best to have lots of hiding places. One alpha-mal will usually dominate the whole tank, if the tank is smaller than 1 meter long (160 liters).

Not very polygamous

Eats about everything offered.

Breeding

Breeds easy in soft water and a pH of 5 - 6 ( up to 7).

In soft, acid water: About 50 eggs/fry
