Distribution and habitat

The Río Tahuayo and the Río Tamshiyacu drainages (Río Ucauali-drainage), Peru

Inhabits small forest creeks with very soft and acid blackwater.

I collected it in 2011, the report from this expedition is found here:

Collecting in the Río Tahuayo and the Río Tamshiyacu drainages 2011

Water parameters

PH : 4 - 6
ppm : As low as possible

My Experience

This species requires large tanks to thrive, and also lots of hiding places, to avoid the potential strong aggression.

Breeding

I find it quite easy to breed. I provide them with mild blackwater, very soft and acid.

Normally it behaves monogamous in my tanks, so there is no need to keep several females to each male.
